Solastalgia:
This project was made over the span of two months where I revisit landscapes around western New York I find familiar, and alter them in the most important way. Outdoor expansive landscapes such as those I have chosen for the project are often viewed under the same lighting conditions every day, a sense of monotony even with the frequent overcast nature of western New York, however here I rig a light to a drone and light the landscapes as I choose. I focus on a more scientific, cold, alien examination of the landscapes, as if an alien ship sent monitors to observe and scan these locations, focusing on volume, form, and detail. In this process I also preserve these landscapes in what seems like a terrarium, shrinking the magnitude of the feature down to something you might find in a small display in a history museum. each exposure is roughly 15 minutes all taken around midnight.
